Pharmacy and Mental Health Facility Partnerships The community feedback period for this idea began on 9/23/19 and ended on 11/22/19.

What is the problem that needs to be addressed? Please describe how it is related to mental health.
Informally, Chapman University has long sought entry into the list of Universities with a Medical School. Chapman University does have a College of Pharmacy with a focus on patient safety according to recent local reporting citing a Chapman University spokesperson.

Orange County has a need for better pharmacological/clinical pharmacy patient safety in its mental health population.

Mental health wards in Orange County do not have clinical pharmacy partnerships plainly visible to mental health patients that can provide better patient education and medication error/reconciliation error reduction.

Chapman University has a distinguished history of educating students with medical diagnoses impacting learning.

Why is this a concern for Orange County? What can Orange County and other counties learn from this project?
Ask the stakeholders.

What is currently being done to resolve this problem in our county and throughout the United States? If applicable: Is it working; why or why not?
Unknown. Ask the stakeholders.

What is new or different about this project idea? Please describe how this differs from what is already being done (Question 6). Please list any research that was done on this topic.
Attempting a different approach to Chapman University’s informal goal of providing Medical Education.

This would double Orange County’s number of Academic Medical Centers and diversify the stock of Academic Medical Centers with a private entity.not beholdant to the University of California Trustees.

What is the project idea? Please describe how this project will operate.
Fund an exploratory committee to research a partnership between Chapman University and an Orange County Mental Health facility TBI.

Funding would include, if feasible, the formation of such a partnership and seed funding to sustainable operations.

Thank you for your submission. The Innovation team will review this idea and post comments and updates when available.

I would love Chapman to become involved with the “Stakeholders.” If they can get past their academic issues and “Town and Gown” this thing it could work.
